THIN ICE ON MOST OF ABRAHAM LAKE
Thin ice (< 7 cm) on most of the lake. The best option for ice bubbles is still Preacher’s Point, even if partially snow-covered.
Most of the lake only froze a few days ago and we’re starting to see the ice thicken from 2-5 cm on December 27 to 5-7 cm on December 28. We recommend not heading out on the ice between Windy Point and Cline River until it is thicker. This could happen quickly with some colder nights in the forecast.
In the meantime, Preacher’s Point remains the best option despite being partially snow-covered and busy. As mentioned earlier, be careful in the areas near the river channel.
As the water level continues to drop, water in this area is now down to the river channel. This now includes the area near the point that was still flooded a week ago. This means that the conditions aren’t great for skating right now, with very few flat surfaces that are not snow-covered.

Ice safety depends on many more factors than just ice conditions and anybody going on the ice should have the knowledge and experience required to assess the risks, or should consider going with a guide.
