WINTER, AT LAST…

After a warm November, we’ve seen a rapid change to winter and Abraham Lake is now frozen!

We had started to see some colder days since the beginning of the month and it didn’t take long for the lake to freeze once the temperatures dropped below -20C for a couple of days.

As of December 17, 2021 the entire lake is fully frozen. Our ice checks at the new Ice Bubbles Parking Lot and at Abraham Slabs at between 15 and 18 cm of clear strong ice. That means that the season has now started for guided ice walks on Abraham Lake with Nordegg Adventures.

Keep an eye on the weather if you’re planning a trip in the coming days, we have more cold days and snow in the forecast for our region.

As always, the highest risks on Abraham Lake are on the rocky shoreline as you approach the lake and while standing on the ice near the shore. Make sure to brush off on your ice safety skills before you head out.

WHERE TO GO

Preacher’s Point has been snow-covered and the ice isn’t great there this year. Cline Landing had some bubbles for those willing to explore a little further but the bay itself was snow-covered.

Abraham Slabs and the new Ice Bubbles parking lot are the best options right now.
