Explore Nordegg’s coal mining heritage

Learn about the stories that helped shape the region.

The Nordegg Discovery Centre and Brazeau Collieries Historic Mine Site Tours reopened in the spring of 2023. The NDC showcases and celebrates the region’s history, culture, and environment while also serving as an information hub for visitors.

The NDC is open for visitors seven days a week (9:00 am – 4:30 pm) from the May Long Weekend to September Long Weekend. Historic Mine Site Tours are available during that time.

The redesigned Interpretive/Exhibit Centre is scheduled to open in 2024.

We acknowledge that the land on which we gather, explore and adventure is home to the Îyârhe Nakoda First Nation and the Smallboy Mountain Cree, part of the Treaty 6 and Treaty 8 Territories, part of the Métis Nation of Alberta Region 3, and has been the traditional meeting ground for many Indigenous Peoples since time immemorial. We are grateful for the stewardship of these lands along with the knowledge, traditions, and teachings that have been passed down through generations.
