A basic creekside campsite a short drive from Nordegg.
Beaverdam is a strange little campground, feeling more like a picnic area than a place to spend the night when you first arrive.
The RV sites are in the parking lot along the side of the David Thompson Highway, making them a good option for a quick overnight stop but not that great for relaxing at the campsite.
The walk-in tent sites on the other hand are in the trees along Shunda Creek making for a pleasant stay, especially since the creek sounds block most highway noises…
We spent many nights there when the kids were younger to take advantage of the great kitchen shelter but unfortunately they were removed in 2015.

Explore the Region From Beaverdam Campground
The meeting locations for tours offered by Rockies Heli Canada, McKenzie’s Trails West, Banff Canyoning and Girth Hitch Guiding are less than 30 minutes away as you head west on the David Thompson Highway.
Hiking trails like Coliseum Mountain, Vision Quest and Allstones Lake are all within a short drive. The Eagle Mountain Ridge trail starts from the campground.
The lake is a nice option for a sunset paddle and there are a few good fishing holes on Shunda Creek just downstream from the campground.
Nearby Services
Nordegg is only 5 minutes away where you’ll find gas stations, basic supplies, restaurants and shops. An RV sani-dump is available at the Nordegg Lodge.

The campground is located in Beaverdam Provincial Recreation Area 5 km east of Nordegg on Highway 11.
