THIN ICE ON MOST OF ABRAHAM LAKE
The lake froze over the past couple of days but the ice is still thinner than 5 cm in most areas.
The lake has frozen over Christmas but the ice is very weak and thin. We’re seeing less than 5 cm in the Abraham Slabs area.
Lots of people were venturing out on the ice today, and quite a few got soaked. We recommend not heading out on the ice between Windy Point and Cline River until it is thicker. This could happen quickly with some colder nights in the forecast.
In the meantime, Preacher’s Point remains the best option despite being snow-covered today. As mentioned earlier, be careful in the areas near the river channel. As you can see in the picture those areas are back to open water today.
The best bubbles continue to be north of the point and south of Cline River. That area is harder to access but the ice has been clear and over 22 cm thick for quite some time.

Ice safety depends on many more factors than just ice conditions and anybody going on the ice should have the knowledge and experience required to assess the risks, or should consider going with a guide.
