Pouding Chomeur

This one isn’t exactly healthy but so good after a day of snowshoeing in the cold…

This traditional Quebec dessert is easy to make, requires few ingredients and is perfect for a cozy evening by the fire.

Ingredients

Cake

  • 1 ½ cup of flour
  • 1 tsp of baking powder
  • ¼ cup of soft butter
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 cup of milk

Caramel Sauce

  • 2 cups of brown sugar
  • 2 cups of water
  • ¼ cup of soft butter
  • ¼ tsp of vanilla extract

Maple Sauce

  • 1 cup of brown sugar
  • 1 cup of maple syrup
  • 1 cup of water
  • ¼ cup of soft butter
  • ¼ tsp of vanilla extract

Directions

  1. Preheat the oven to 325 F
  2. In a bowl, mix the butter and sugar. Incorporate the flour, baking powder and milk. Spread the mixture in a buttered 13″ by 9″ pan.
  3. Combine all the ingredients for the sauce in a pot. Bring to a boil and let boil for 2 minutes. Pour over the dough.
  4. Cook for 45 minutes.

Serve warm and enjoy!
