Our classic Abraham Lake Ice Walk with more time for capturing the magic of the ice bubbles at either sunrise or sunset.

Your guide will take you to one of the best spots on the lake for ice bubbles and quirky ice formations. Where we go depends on the conditions but Preacher's Point, Abraham Slabs and Hoodoo Creek are some of our favourites for this tour. Since we focus on finding great locations, this tour can be tailored for camera phone photographers and professionals alike.

Ice cleats, a professional guide and our own made-from-scratch hot chocolate and marshmallows are all included. You will be meeting your guide at Abraham Lake for this tour.

When and where does the tour start?

  • The morning tour starts at:
    • November 15 to January 15: 7:30 am
    • January 16 to February 10: 7 am
    • February 11 to March 1: 6:30 am
  • The afternoon tour starts at:
    • November 15 to January 15: 3:30 pm
    • January 16 to February 10: 4 pm
    • February 11 to March 1: 4:30 pm
  • You will meet your guide at the Rockies Heli Canada base (get directions).

Return time varies based on the group and conditions. This tour is approximately 2.5 hours from start to finish.

What do I need to bring?

Be prepared for the mountain weather. Conditions can change quickly and our winter tours run in anything from - 30C to +10C. Abraham Lake is a very windy place, bring an extra layer with you just in case. Keep in mind that on photo tours we spend more time exposed to the elements at each of the locations.

  • Tuque and gloves
  • Appropriate clothing for the weather including long underwear

  • A small backpack

Photography Equipment

These tours are private tours for your group only. We can adapt this tour for phone cameras or for those using higher-end equipment. Each guest is responsible for bringing and knowing how to operate the camera and equipment they will be using on the tour.

Ice cleats and safety equipment are included during the tour. If you're planning to explore on your own after the tour you can rent the equipment at a discounted rate for the rest of the day (must be reserved at the time of booking).

What kind of snack is included?

Hot chocolate is available with dairy or coconut milk. Tea is available as well.

A bagged lunch is available as an add-on. Reserve yours at the time of booking and your guide will have it for you at the beginning of your tour.

Please make sure to mention any dietary requirements when you book your adventure and we will try to accommodate whenever possible.

What kind of transportation is provided?

Transportation is not provided for this tour.

Transportation from Nordegg is available as an add-on for this tour. It must be added to your reservation at the time of booking, contact us if you have any questions.

What's the group size?

This is a private tour available for groups of 1 to 12 guests. Contact us if you are planning for a group of 13 or more guests.

This day trip is open to all ability levels, whether you are a beginner and or an expert. You must be comfortable walking 1+ km in a variety of conditions. This tour is recommended for those 6 and older.

What are the terms and conditions?

This tour requires bookings to be made at least 2 days prior to departure. Please contact us at (403) 986-6190 for a last-minute booking.

Cancellation Policy

All bookings are non-refundable but we will offer you a credit for a future adventure if you cancel a minimum of 72 hours prior to departure.

A Few More Things To Know

We get to play outside on our tours and that means you’ll want to come prepared for the weather. Make sure to dress in layers and come prepared for the unpredictable weather we often get in Alberta. We rarely cancel tours due to weather, as long as we can have a safe adventure. You’ll be amazed at how warm we get snowshoeing at -20C or how much fun hiking in the rain can be!
