Abraham Lake Ice Conditions – January 31 2024

Home » Abraham Lake Ice Conditions – January 31 2024

You can still find great patches bubbles despite extreme fluctuations in temperatures over the last couple of weeks.

Temperatures have been on quite the roller coaster, going from extreme cold to spring-like in just a couple of weeks. The ice remains thick and strong, and we currently have 50+ cm of well-bonded ice with a layer of water on top in places. Watch out for the odd drainage hole as you explore the lake, usually where there are big pools of water.

There are lots of great ice features to be found on the shore, and potentially weak ice where the bank is steep.

Cline Landing is the best option for those who are less familiar with ice safety. Conditions change quickly in this warm weather. Be sure to check the ice as you go. We will post another update before the weekend.

Where to Go

The Ice Bubbles Parking Lot, Hoodoo Creek, Abraham Slabs and Cline Landing all have great bubble patches but you will have to be willing to explore a bit.
