IT’S ICE BUBBLE SEASON

Preacher’s Point is starting to clear up with some great ice bubbles if you’re willing to explore.

The ice continues to get thicker at Preacher’s Point with over 18 cm of ice throughout the area. As usual, shore access and the section near the point downstream from the parking lot are the riskiest at this time of the year.

The area closer to the access is still mostly snow-covered. You’ll need to explore a little further to find some great bubbles but it’s well worth the effort. There’s still too much snow for skating however.

When will the rest of the lake freeze? It depends on temperatures but we usually see ice form on the entire lake in the second half of December.

As always, the highest risks on Abraham Lake are on the rocky shoreline as you approach the lake and while standing on the ice near the shore. Make sure to brush off on your ice safety skills before you head out.

Where to Go

The only section of the lake with ice is Preacher’s Point.
