This is an update following the floods in 2013. Most trails and areas have now reopened.

Siffleur Falls is still closed. At this point Alberta Parks has not updated their closure notice with a reopening date. For more information on the Siffleur Falls trail closure read our West Country Update from July 6. We spent the past few days camping in the area and while most of our time was spent on family friendly hikes, we came across a few other damaged trails and campgrounds.

Thompson Creek Campground

Part of the campground is closed due to the road being washed out. At this point there are 26 sites open. Check with Westward Bound Campgrounds before heading out for the latest information.

Thompson Creek Hike

This short but gorgeous hike through the Landslide Lake Prescribed Burn area suffered as the creek changed path. A new trail is already starting to form but expect some light bushwacking throughout most of the hike to the first waterfall. The trail is still a great options for families but this is not an option for strollers at the moment. The hike is listed on page 235 of the David Thompson Highway: A hiking guide.

Be Bear Aware

A reminder that the West Country is bear country. We spotted this black bear across from the Two O’Clock Creek Campground on Sunday evening and again near the Siffleur Falls staging area on Tuesday.

South Ram River bridge closure

The South Ram River bridge on Highway 734 is closed due to poor condition. Barricades have been placed at the bridge but the area on either side of the bridge are currently open for regular use. For more information, check out
